In 1998, Benoit enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Cherbourg, studying under artists including Lejeune and Valadié.

By the age of 19, he had committed himself to painting full-time, initially exploring watercolours during his travels through Morocco before developing his distinctive approach to oil painting.
