Scott Tetlow – Contemporary British Figurative Artist
Now available at Bloom Fine Art in Towcester, Scott Tetlow is a contemporary artist known for expressive figurative drawings and paintings that focus on movement, energy, and line.
Born in Rochdale in 1969, Tetlow developed a passion for art at an early age. His early work, including sketching subcultures and designing album covers, led him to study Fine Art at Cheltenham University. His career was disrupted in 2002 when a studio fire destroyed his entire body of work, leading him to step away from painting and move into teaching.
A turning point came in 2011 after relocating to Verona. Surrounded by art and architecture, he returned to drawing and painting, reigniting his creative direction. Since then, he has worked continuously, refining a distinctive style centred on line and form.
Tetlow’s work is heavily influenced by calligraphy, which he studied while living in Taiwan. This influence is evident in his approach to mark-making, where each line is deliberate, fluid, and expressive. His drawings are often completed in a single continuous process, requiring precision, control, and confidence.
A defining characteristic of his work is movement. His figures are not static; they appear alive, shaped by lines that carry energy and direction. Each mark is intentional, with no opportunity for revision, giving his work a raw and immediate quality.
His art explores both the physical form and the emotional state behind it. The result is a body of work that feels personal, instinctive, and highly engaging.
Scott Tetlow’s work appeals to collectors looking for:
