Danielle O'Connor Akiyama
Born in Canada and now based on the wild west coast of Ireland, artist Danielle O’Connor creates expressive, luminous paintings filled with movement, emotion and colour. Her work captures everything from joyful floral compositions to atmospheric abstract worlds, brought to life through energetic brushwork, layered textures and a distinctive visual language that makes her instantly recognisable to collectors around the world.
Danielle’s move to Ireland marked a transformative new chapter in both her life and artistic journey. Surrounded by the dramatic Atlantic coastline, rolling hills and ever-changing Irish light, she found renewed inspiration that continues to shape her evolving body of work today.
To deepen her understanding of form and movement, Danielle studied the traditional Japanese art of sumi-e brush painting, earning the prestigious Master’s Seal in recognition of her exceptional work. The red chop mark featured within her paintings reflects her honorary sumi-e title, “Source of Joy”.
Blending eastern techniques with western contemporary expression, Danielle’s work has gained international acclaim and is highly sought after by collectors across the UK, Europe and North America. Her celebrated career was further recognised through the publication of the retrospective fine art book, Illumination.
A passionate traveller, Danielle has explored every continent in search of inspiration, drawing influence from nature, culture, colour and texture. She also incorporates natural minerals including quartz, gold and diamond tailings into her paintings, creating richly textured surfaces that physically connect her work back to the earth itself.
